About Us

We are International Fish Specialists & Cold Storage Providers to Importers, Exporters and Vessel Owners

Kaytrad Commodities (Pty) Ltd is based in Cape Town, South Africa. The business was established in 1980 by owner principal Andrew Kaye who has been involved in the fishing industry for over 40 years and is well-known for helping to establish the longlines squid, tuna and longline hake, and other small hake trawl sectors.

The business owns a 600 metric ton capacity cold storage plant in Hout Bay in the surrounds of Cape Town, which is EU and HACCP approved. We have access to EU-approved freezing and cold storage facilities in prominent ports of South Africa and Namibia.

“We place a high value on nurturing long-term relationships with our suppliers and clients, and we believe in loyalty and benefit for all. We apply high integrity and moral standards in our associations and through the quality of our products."

Our Commitment to the Industry

To work with and maintain an open dialogue with our supply partners

These include:

  • Environmental organisations

  • The fishing industry representative bodies

  • Government agencies and regulators

  • The scientific communities to continuously improve the supply of sustainable seafood products

To supply scheme certified product wherever possible

Our fish is, wherever possible, all wild-caught seafood products certified to schemes that comply with the United Nations (UN) Food and Agriculture (FAO) Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries, CITES, MSC, and other relevant RFMO organisations.

We recognise that certification is a timely and costly process, and we encourage cooperation with suppliers and applicable regulatory bodies in order to facilitate achieving this goal.

To promote sustainable seafood options throughout the supply chain

Kaytrad is committed to promoting sustainable seafood options as a fundamental business strategy. Sustainability requires commitment from all stakeholders in the supply chain, to ensure that there is continuous development and improvement, therefore enabling both sustainability of the resource as well as economic sustainability of the procurement of seafood products – whether this be for import and/or export.
